James Watts Space Telescope Presentation - August 14

Looking outward, through the stunning new images from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) we are inspired to examine anew our own existence and humanity. Over 340 fail points that miraculously all worked give us the powerful images we have seen the last few weeks. The JWST, the successor to Hubble, is the newest NASA project which astronomers have been eagerly anticipating since it was first proposed in the late 1990s. Near infrared, far infrared, Lagrange point, Kelvin, heat shield, secondary mirror, hexagonal gold mirror - lots of science which can boggle the mind.

Join Stan Hart for a special presentation on the JWST on Sunday, August 14 at 1 pm following our Back-to-School cookout in the Fellowship Hall. Stan will answer some of your most puzzling questions about how the science works and what the telescope will do for us all, including getting us closer to answering the big questions on everyone’s mind!

Stan has been a member of Highlands for many years. He was raised a Methodist at Trinity in Homewood. He is retired from UAB and taught chemistry and physics in a public school setting for 25 years. He is a self proclaimed science geek and has studied astronomy at the University of Arizona and Kit Peake National Observatory in Tucson. Come explore with us on August 14!
