What are your favorite things about Highlands?

Highlands is a niche church in the best ways: it is committed to serious music, formal liturgy, social justice, alternatives to dominant culture, attractive to different people and influences, welcoming to new people, offering children and youth growth opportunities that only small numbers can provide. It’s not for everyone but calls to some of the most genuine people I have shared pews with. It has changed me even though I never set foot inside until I was 65.

When is a time you’ve felt closest to God?

When my children were born.

What is your favorite place to vacation?

Highlands, North Carolina and Grayton Beach, Florida.

Movies: “Big Night” (1996) with Stanley Tucci, Tony Shalhoub, Campbell Scott, Isabella Rossellini and Minnie Driver. “Blade Runner” (1982) with Harrison Ford, Sean Young, Rutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah and “Apocalypse Now” (1979) with Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando and Dennis Hopper.
