Sight Seekers: Robinson Iron

On Monday, February 26, the Sight Seekers have an opportunity to visit Robinson Iron in Alexander City.  Robinson Iron has developed a worldwide reputation for restoring and creating cast metal.  The third generation of the Robinson family remains involved in running the company which was founded in 1946.  There are often 15 to 25 projects going on at any one time.  In 2015, Robinson Iron fabricated gates for the City Hall of Philadelphia based on drawings by the architect of the building in 1869.  In 2017, they restored the 158 year-old cupola of the Tennessee State Capitol Building.  Closer to home, they were the company that cleaned, recast, and coated the Vulcan statue atop Red Mountain from 1999 through 2003.  This is a unique opportunity, as Robinson Iron is not normally open for tours and it will be only our group during the visit.

We will need to leave Highlands by 9 AM and the trip takes an hour and 20 minutes.  Following the tour, we will have lunch at Sho Nuff, which is well known for their barbecue and meat and veggie plates.  Cost of the trip and lunch is $15.  We should be back at the Church no later than 2:30 PM

To facilitate planning, it will be helpful to know how many people are interested in attending this trip.  Please e-mail Gayle Byrne (tennmiss@bellsouth.net) no later than Feb 7 and indicate whether or not you would like to attend.
