Five Points South St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

March 15

The annual St. Patrick’s Day parade is back, and will pass right in front of Highlands on Saturday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. There will be festivities throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., including Irish-themed food and drinks along with live music on our front lawn and other participating businesses. Wear something green and come out to support our neighborhood next Saturday!

Highlands will offer Sanctuary tours from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will have a float in the parade. Anyone who would like to participate in the parade may sign up here.

The church office will be closed Christmas on January 1, 2024 for New Year’s Day.  We wish you a safe and happy holiday.

Celebrate the holiday season with a Community Breakfast on Sunday, December 29 in the Fellowship Hall. We will serve breakfast for our community guests from 9 to 10 am, wrapping up in time for worship at 10:30 am. We have several volunteer opportunities, including providing food and beverages, serving, hosting tables, and setup and clean up. If you’d like to help out, contact Nancy Hill. Service of Christmas Eve Communion for Children and Families

This service of Holy Communion for Christmas Eve will be tailored for children and their families - brief, beautiful, and filled with the joy of the coming of the Christ Child.

The Highlands family is invited to come out and ring the bell for the Salvation Army on Saturday, Dec 21st.  We will be at Belks at the Summit from 10am to 6pm.  Please volunteer for a 1 hour shift.  It is a great opportunity for families to help out those that need the most this Christmas season.  Please contact Mark Chambers to sign up: markc205@yahoo.com.

Children’s Christmas Service Project - December 19

Save the date for a children’s ministries service project on Tuesday, December 19 from 4 to 6 pm. Children will rotate through stations creating needed items for various ministries of the church and local service organizations. All are welcome and invited. RSVPs requested.

As is our tradition, Highlands will serve Thanksgiving lunch to our Community Ministries friends on Thursday, November 28. Prior to the meal, we need volunteers to cook desserts and sides as well as set up and decorate the Fellowship Hall. On Thanksgiving Day, we need volunteers to help with serving, welcoming, and clean up.

If you will be out of town on Thanksgiving, please consider making a donation to assist with the purchase of the meal. Checks may be made to HUMC with “CM Thanksgiving” in the memo line and dropped in the offering plate during worship or delivered to the church office.

One Sunday each month, our children, youth and adults will gather together during Sunday School for Heart and Hand Sundays, where we will work together on service projects for our church and community. This inter-generational time of service will start with refreshments and a short devotional suitable for all ages. Join us at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall on November 24 to make decorations and other preparations for our Community Thanksgiving Meal.

United Women In Faith Bake Sale

Cookies, cakes and pies, oh my! United Women in Faith (UMW) are holding a bake sale before and after worship service on November 24. The proceeds will support UMW local missions projects. Join us on Sunday, October 27 to celebrate Halloween Highlands style! Wear your costumes to church and join us following worship for a seasonal fellowship meal and a carnival for the kids. We are in need of baked goods for a cake walk, additional Halloween decorations, and volunteers to help run simple carnival games and distribute prizes during the event.
