Guest Speaker: Dr. Ream Shoreibah

Dr. Ream Shoreibah joined the Birmingham-Southern College faculty after earning her M.B.A. from Indiana University and Ph.D. from The University of South Florida. She taught marketing at The University of South Florida and management at Fort Hays State University. Her research interests focus on the intersection of marketing with social issues in two contexts: integrated marketing communication and personal selling teams.

Her research has been published or presented at national and international avenues, including Industrial Marketing Management, the American Marketing Association Winter Educators' Conference, the Academy of Marketing Science Annual Conference, and the Social Marketing in Public Health Conference.

She is a member of the Academy of Marketing Science and the Society for Marketing Advances. Dr. Shoreibah also has corporate, franchising, and non-profit field experience that she draws on to complement her academic work.

Guest Speaker: Christina Hinshaw N'tchougan-Sonou

Christina was born in Ohio and spent her adolescent years in that area, interspersed with living for a couple of years in Stockholm, Sweden. She attended Independent Presbyterian Church and graduated from Mountain Brook High School before spending her college years at Miami University in Ohio. She has lived and worked in Accra, Ghana for a year after college, and it was there that she discovered the Baha'i Faith, which has since been the major guiding force of my life. During the 1990s, she ran a school in Benin, West Africa, got married to a Togolese man, and did my doctorate at Oxford University. She has since worked for 20 years in the field of International Development, with an emphasis in Education and Youth, which has enabled her family to live in Senegal, Benin, Morocco and Washington, DC. With my two children away at college and the end of my marriage, I moved to Hoover two years ago to live with my mom, who's a member of Asbury Methodist Church. Christina is an active member of the Baha'i community of Hoover.

Dalia is a DONA certified birth doula, Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, Certified Lactation Counselor, and DONA Approved birth doula trainer. She has a master's degree in Public Health from UAB's School of Public Health with a focus on Maternal and Child Health. She is also a wife and the mother of four amazing grown children. Dalia devotes her time to improving birth because she believes that an empowering birth experience powerfully and positively impacts the goals birth-givers and parents set for themselves, ultimately making the world a better place for us all.

Guest Speaker: Britton Buckner

Britton Buckner s a graduate of the University of the South, where she earned bachelor's degrees in history and religion. She then earned a master of divinity degree from Harvard University. She serves as Head of programming for Catholic Relief Services coordinating international relief efforts in many of the worlds war torn, natural and political disaster locations such as Urkraine, Poland, Iraq and Turkey providing displaced refugees with shelter, food, living supplies, along with education and trauma support for children. Britton attended Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church growing up and is the daughter of Highlands’ members Ellen and Rick Buckner.

Guest Speaker: Jake Morrill

For 19 years, Rev. Jake Morrill served as Lead Minister of the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. A former Chaplain in the US Army Reserve, Jake is the Executive Director of the UU Christian Fellowship, and is a licensed marital and family therapist. Since leaving the ministry in 2022, he has worked as a leadership coach and consultant with family businesses, helping them achieve cultures of emotional maturity through better relationship management skills. Jake has published five books, the last of which, in 2022, was on boundaries at work and at home. He and his wife, Molly, are the proud parents of two teenagers.

Parents of rising 4th, 5th, and 6th graders are asked to attend an important information meeting regarding our upcoming year for the third level of Atrium.  The meeting will follow the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, August 20 in the Atrium Level III classroom.  Contact Reggie Holder or Lauri Soong for more information.

Children's Summer Sunday School Begins

Children's Summer Sunday School Begins June 4.

All children will meet together at 9:30 a.m. in the Children's Choir Room (208) for some singing before breaking into small groups for lessons.  Children will be studying the life of Moses.  Parents may pick up children at 10:15 a.m. from classrooms:

  • Preschool/Kindergarten children will meet in room E106 (CDC Sunflowers classroom).
  • Elementary children will meet in room E217 (Atrium III).

No Sunday School on May 28, July 2, or September 3.
